by André -Jacob Roubo

With All the Precision Possible: Furniture Lost Art Press has undertaken the massive project of reissuing classics by Andre Roubo, a third- generation master cabinetmaker who lived in 18th century Paris. His masterwork, The Art of the Joiner (L’Art du Menuisier) was published from 1769 - 1774 and is widely regarded as the most comprehensive volume about all facets of high-end woodworking ever written. In this volume - unavailable in English until now - Roubo focuses on the woodshop, tools, joinery and the construction of furniture, and brings his customary insights that stem from conversations with other woodworkers about their own practices. The book is richly illustrated with Roubo’s own illustrations, sure to intrigue contemporary woodworkers interested in traditional methods. What sets Roubo apart is the depth, detail and breadth of his work. In addition to Roubo’s own texts and illustrations, the book also includes five essays on Roubo written by Christopher Schwarz, Don Williams, Philippe Lagargue, Jonathan Thornton and Michael Mascelli.
