The entire Tried & True line of finishes uses all-natural, renewable ingredients without solvents and metallic driers -- with zero VOC! The system is based upon polymerized linseed oil that protects wood while simultaneously remaining safe for people, plants and pets. Tried & True leaves a satin finish that is both protective and elegant.

But perhaps these reasons give short shrift to some of the appeal for many woodworkers. They love that Tried & True uses 18th century time-tested techniques. They also love the honeyed consistency that makes enjoy not only the Tried & True product, but also the process involved.

Tried & True Varnish Oil is made from highly polymerized linseed oil fortified with natural resin varnish, which is derived from pine sap. (Plants and seeds rule at T&T!) It offers superior abrasion and scratch resistance and really enhances the wood’s appearance.

Use it on interior joinery - furniture, cabinets, paneling - to get a traditional, fine woodworking finish. You can also feel free to use Tried & True Varnish on cutting boards, toys, and butcher blocks since it is a food-safe finish. For extra protection against liquids, top off with Tried & True Original.

Tried & True’s founder was fond of saying, “If you’re using any, you’re using enough.” A small amount of the finish goes a very long way -- making it surprisingly economical. The absence of added solvents translates into a better coverage rate than standard finishes. Tried & True recommends using a rag rather than a brush for all of its finishes so that you could limit quantities during the application process.

Available in pint and quart containers. Food and skin contact safe.

Phenomenal finish
By: Jim Pudar (Jan, 2023)
This has become my go-to finish for anything that needs more protection than just shellac. I've tried the T&T Original and the Danish Oil and I like this a lot better, although using some of the Original as a final coat over this is pretty nice, although a normal furniture wax does basically the same exact thing. I keep a linen rag soaked in it tightly packed inside a small mason jar and add additional finish as needed. I expect a quart to last me at least a year or two - I use an inert gas spray inside the can between uses to ensure it won't go off prematurely. You can still feel the wood through the finish, unlike a poly or lacquer. You can build it up pretty easily, but it never starts to feel like plastic. I've used this on nice furniture, my workbench top, and all my tool handles. This stuff also smells fantastic, and I don't have to worry about my cats potentially breathing (or eating) toxic chemicals if I let them in the shop. Can't recommend this enough!
I own this product.
