These Gramercy Tools rasps are hand cut and you will be surprised not only by how fast they work, but by how smooth a surface they leave. Made of surgical grade stainless steel for a tough, long life with a brass ferruled wood handle. The lengths given are the approximate working length of the rasp. "Teeth coarseness" is the approximate number of teeth per inch of the rasp teeth. We have several sizes of rasps designed to cover a wide range of work. The shortest of the rasps is only 5" long (working length) and is inspired by the long-gone Nicholson 55 - except ours is hand cut. The teeth go out to the edge, for a greater range of work. We have longer rasps with both coarser and finer teeth. The larger, finer rasps are ideal for making cabriole legs and other areas of sculpted furniture-making. The rasps are made in Pakistan, which has a long tradition of metalwork, by a single craftsman with very limited production who is working to our specifications. Sizes will come in an out of stock as supply permits. Measurements are approximate. The handles are made in USA.

New style 10” 11tpi rasp
By: Bill McFadden (May, 2021)
I own the Gramercy handle makers rasp and it works wonderfully so I was hopeful for this one. The tooth pattern is totally different. It has very little bite especially on the flat side. And when trying to round over end rain on a hard wood it wouldn’t bite in at all. A bastard cut file of mine worked much better. Also as mentioned the handle is much too small for anything but a small rasp. Unfortunately I will be returning the rasp. I bought the ‘new style’ because it is much more affordable.

Nice Rasp, Needs a Better Handle
By: Doug (Mar, 2021)
After a few tests I can say the rasp itself performs well, and I look forward to using it. The handle, however is pretty disappointing. The ferrule was too lose and simply slides around and the grain in the handle resulted in it being very rough even after re-sanding/finishing. Sadly the Skroo-zon file handles I purchased are superior, and I'll probably order another one to replace this handle. As others have mentioned, the skinny handle is also not the most comfortable.

9.25" rasp review
By: Joe Cavallo (May, 2020)
Within 10 minutes of the first use of the 9.25" rasp, I thru away all cheaper rasps and the small, sanding drum set used in my drill press. Don't need them. Ordering additional rasps today.

Novice woodworking
By: CYNTHIA APODACA (Oct, 2019)
I've since retired from working at desk. As a retirement gift, my boss gave two rasps, a handsaw and Dovetail saw. I'm a novice woodworker. At the moment I'm sculpting female torsos and birdhouses. I'm looking forward to learn dovetail woodwork. Gramercy tools are quality tools -- heirlooms for certain!

If you're on the fence, just buy it!
By: Dan (Sep, 2019)
I bought the 5" 25 TPI rasp as a test purchase to see whether I liked the product before jumping fully into buying a full sized rasp. This rasp is fantastic! The surface finish left after is surprisingly good even though it cuts relatively quickly. I have no regrets about my purchase except for the fact that I wish I had just gone ahead and bought the large one. If you are on the fence, just buy it. I'm a cautious person by nature and read every review, but can saw without a doubt that this is a great product. The only thing that you may notice is that on softer wood or resinous wood the teeth might get clogged. This is not a problem as any good woodworker knows you need to take care of your tools. I need to find a brush or buy the one that TFWW sells to clean the teeth. Overall could not be happier!

What A Difference
By: JonnotJohn (Sep, 2018)
I’ve only used hardware store rasps and wasn’t sure about spending the money on something better. I’m so glad I finally did! These remove material so fast and leave a surprisingly smooth finish. Even the handle fits comfortably in hand. Highly recommended!

Nice!

Maybe SLIGHTLY less elegant than the Auriou but priced so much less you can't go wrong.

Hard to believe
By: Dietrich Speer (Jan, 2017)
I have never used anything but mass produced rasps. I bought a set of these a while back and now used them for the first time. The difference is hard to believe. Too bad they last so long - I could be buying more.

A lovely rasp!
By: Chris Haake (Dec, 2016)
I just received my 9.25" 11tpi rasp and took it for a spin on some maple scraps. What a JOY this tool is! Fast, smooth, precise cutting that leaves a surface easily smoothed out. I'll likely be ordering more Gramercy rasps in time!

Fantastic rasps
By: Dennis Vaughn (Jun, 2014)
Fantastic rasps! Just got my 6 1/2 18TPI and used it on some ipe just to see how it would perform. All I can say is wow! It cuts through the ipe like butter and never clogged up. My only issue is the handles are a bit small. A problem that should be easy to fix.

Good Good and Great.
By: James@ Marine Repair (May, 2014)
After many nights of laborious rasping with vintage rusted, epoxy plugged rasp's, dating back to the early 80's, I signed my hard gained assets away for a Gramercy set of stainless hand stitched replacements. I received my order and promptly put the 5in 25T to use. She is wonderful, now my favorite but don't fall asleep with her in your pocket. P.S. All work better than expected. I will reorder as needed. Thanks

Incredible Wow Factor
By: Dave W (Apr, 2014)
These rasps are an extraordinary upgrade to the home center variety or the Japanese Shinto rasps. I just received mine today and used them for the first time on a curvy cutting board project. They cut like a dream and leave a beautiful surface that does not need a lot of sanding if you work through the grades properly. After a coping saw on the curves I used an 11 TPI followed by a 25 TPI. A few light touches with some 220 grit paper was all that was needed to follow. After 5 years of woodworking I am not a beginner but my experience and abilities definitely put me in the novice category. The only rasp I've ever used was a Shinto. I was digging and gouging my curvy cutting board so I decided to buck up the money for Gramercy rasps. They are not inexpensive but more affordable than the French alternatives. I'm hoping to buy some more in the near future.

Fantastic tools at a great price
By: Casey (Nov, 2013)
These rasps are great and for the price, you can't beat them. My only two real wishes for them would be safe edges (without the teeth) and larger handles. My hand starts to cramp after periods of extended use.

One of my favorite tools
By: Andrew H (Aug, 2013)
A fantastic tool - It is my go-to for everything from final shaping of curves to finessing joinery to fit just right. Leaves an amazingly smooth surface, works quickly and with varying pressure you can hog off material or gently shape it. Compared to what you get at a hardware or home store, these are almost magical by comparison!

Huge upgrade over the hardware store alternatives
By: RC (Jul, 2013)
Being a mostly hand tool guy I purchased these with the expectation that they would come in handy in fairing curves and other shaping tasks. The rasps I had previously were machine stitched from the hardware store and the difference between those and the TFWW rasps is like the difference between Atari and Xbox. They can cut smooth or hog off material without clogging up and the little brush takes care of the rest. I'm surprised how often I reach for these now.
I own this product.
Great rasps
By: Art Kieres (Mar, 2013)
Amazing rasps. Great attention to detail and they cut extremely smoothly and cleanly. I look for excuses to pick them up in the shop.
I own this product.
