Back by popular demand!
Understanding how to use a grinder can save you hours of sharpening time. Stop being afraid of the grinder -- one of the most important tools in the workshop. Learn how not to overheat, burn or destroy your tools. Learn good technique and master grinding.
In this class, you’ll learn how to hollow grind chisels and plane irons to a wire edge in a minute or two. You’ll learn:
When to grind
The geometry of grinding
Classic and modern grinding technology and equipment
The technique of grinding
Most of this class will be lecture and demonstration. But every student will have a chance to use a properly set up, high speed dry grinder and get a feel for the tool. We will provide tools for practice, and you’re also welcome to bring your own tool (with a flat back) to work on.
Joel will be using the technique he described in his Fine Woodworking Magazine article, "Grind Perfect Edges Without Burning." For more information, check out the article or or click here for an overview.
Student must bring or purchase safety goggles and sign a waiver. You do not need to reserve a spot, but please comment below or email us so we could get a handle on how many people to expect.
