As a major manufacturer of water stones Naniwa of Japan also makes a wide range of flattening plates for all sorts of situations. In general we recommend the Norton Flattening plate (which we helped design) because it’s a good compromise of size, aggression, and price. However the super large, coarse flattening plate from Naniwa (listed below) is very tempting for rapid work on big coarse stones. We also stock a few smaller stones, of which the most interesting is the 220 grit stone. It is designed for selective conditioning on finer stones by local application on the high spots (usually the ends) of the stone. Made in Japan.
