The cabinet maker’s rasp is the most popular style, appropriate for general cabinetmaking and usually the first kind of rasp a woodworker acquires. One side of the rasp is flat, the other rounded, and the entire tool comes to a point. As in all hand-made Auriou rasps, the teeth go out to the edges of the rasp, so that you can work a sharp inside corner. Also, the rasp is stitched (toothed) all the way to the point. You will find that the flat side of the rasp isn’t 100 percent flat. It is ever so slightly bent, so it is easier to naturally rasp a flat surface. The rasps come handed; in general, we stock the right-handed versions only. Left-handed versions are occasionally stocked, and you could just ask us to place a special order. In general, the longer rasps with a longer stroke cut faster, but the smaller lengths are great when you need control. For even smaller versions of essentially the same shape rasp, check out our Modeling Rasps.

Popular sizes are indicated in with a *.

Auriou uses a scale of 1 to 15 grain to describe the cut of their rasps, with 1 the coarsest and 15 the finest.

Awesome, must have for wood crafting
I own this product.

These Auriou rasps are so sweet. If you like curves in your work, you must have an assortment of them. they put other rasps to shame. Sam Maloof would agree, since his work is basically sculptural. If you want to invite people to pick up and hold your work you'd better purchase these.
I own this product.
Outstanding tools
By: Chris Clark (Mar, 2015)
Ever since I was handed a 4-in-hand rasp in 7th grade woodshop (50 years ago)I have always thought that the tool should work! And was always disappointed by the resulting labor for a poor product. I pretty much gave up on rasps over the years as a nice idea, but doesn't do the job. UNTIL I purchased an Auriou rasp. I now have six of them and find them to indispensable in the shop; from simple edge cleanup to complex curve forms. They are a joy to use! Really. I now frequently forego powering up some power tool or another, with set up and all that, and just grab the appropriate rasp; job is done to almost finished form in less time that other methods, power or hand tool. I will be purchasing more over time as my budget and project requirements dictated. An expensive tool that will actually DO THE JOB, is better by far than a hundred cheap (and expensive ones) that won't. You just can't beat a quality tool - you get what you pay for (sometimes and this is one)
I own this product.
Auriou Rasp
By: Dan Cottrill (Jan, 2015)
These are excellent rasps! I now have 1 of the cabinet rasps (10" grain 11), the 7" modeler rasps, and a round one. They all work amazing. Now that I have them I find myself reaching for them more or more as I refine the details of curved shaped parts and when I want to quickly knock an edge off with out using a power tool. Well worth the investment.
I own this product.

I make musical instruments for a living and after running the necks through a duplicate carver of my own design I've found the Auriou grain 8 to be the best tool for removing router marks and carving to the final shape. There are several files and grades of sandpaper that came after but this is far and away the best rasp on the market. They are a bit pricey but I've found them to be well worth the cost. They do eventually dull a bit and so I replace it every two-three years.
I own this product.
