The tools you need for miniature and pen turning are identical to full-size tools only smaller. This set contains more than the absolute minimum you need but it's a comprehensive package that the serious miniaturist will want right away. The six-piece set contains: 3/8" flat skew chisel, 1/8" square end scraper, 1/8" round nosed scraper, 1/8" strong section parting tool, and a 1/8" and 1/4" spindle gouge.

The three-piece is perfect for the pen turner and is about as small a kit of tools as is practical. The oval skew in this kit is easier to use than the normal square section skew and it will make learning to use the skew a lot easier. The kit contains: 1/2" oval skew chisel, 3/8" roughing out gouge, 1/8" beading and parting tool.
All the tools have about a 4" blade length and a proportional beech handle.

Except where noted all tools are made of high speed steel (HSS) and are sold handled. Tony Iles hand finishes each and every turning tool himself and is proud that every tool is shipped with its surfaces ground and edges broken. These are tools that will feel wonderful in the hand, with a heft makes them feel very solid - a real aid in turning. All the tools are shipped sharp and ready to use, although we fully expect many of you to customize the grinds to your particular working methods.
