Introducing The Gramercy Tools Veneer Saw

12/02/2010

Introducing The Gramercy Tools Veneer Saw 4I am writing this on Wednesday, in the middle of a rainstorm. We lost part of our power, one leg of the three phase went out, and the lights don't work. Fortunately with some judicious extension cords the computers are up and running.

This of course is one of a series of unfortunate events that have just plagued us recently. In October we showed our new veneer saw at Woodworking in America to great first impressions with the intention of having it out the door in mid-November. Mid-November came and went and all the parts are sitting here, along with the necessary jigs and files for sharpening the blades, but no handles.

Our handle maker dropped the ball, but up until this past Monday we thought we would still have handles delivered. Sadly that is not to be. We won't have machine made handles for another couple of weeks (from a different vendor) but that will not stop early saw deliveries.

We milled up some walnut and we are using hollows and rounds and other hand tools to make a short run of handles to get started with. The handles are coming out pretty quickly but it is real work and taking some effort. While the number of hand made handles we plan to make is limited we are pretty confident we should be shipping some saws by the end of this week, certainly early next.

Introducing The Gramercy Tools Veneer Saw 3We are real happy with how the veneer saw came out. It has a steel backer plate so it's nice and rigid, the hand sharpened blades are all interchangeable and we have a total of four different blade profiles available - depending on how you work. The blades are shipped hand sharpened and ready to go. Click here for more information.

Note: after the initial batch of hand made handles is exhausted we expect the machine made handles will have arrived. However as we have seen already the best laid plans of mice and men and retailers oft go astray so while we expect to be able to deliver later orders before the holiday I have no idea at the moment if it fact we will make it on time.

why don't you deliver only the blade allowing customers to build up his on handle? (Something like the Bowe saw)

Cesidio,
If you want to make your own veneer saw we do sell just the blades. However at the moment we don't sell the steel backer plates separately. We might but the handle is a very inexpensive part so unlike the back saws or the bow saw where the woodwork does add a serious amount of cost there would be almost no savings in a kit.
